“Arrival at Balmaitri, and a welcoming with chai tea by the head of the program. The view from here is lovely – lush, green hills, village houses and a white temple glowing bright on a nearby peak. We are given a brief introduction – this organisation is basically a school run for the lowest caste children of the foothills and surrounding villages. There are 30 boarders who sleep at the school because they either live too far away to travel there every day or have tough conditions at home, and the school fees run on a pay-what-you-can basis. Some families pay full fees, some pay half and some pay less or nothing, and the children at the school are both educated and fed.”Show More..
